George Charles “Adolayheski” Rogers is a 17 year old high school senior at St. Joseph Academy in Brownsville, Texas and proud member of the Cherokee Nation of Mexico. He has lived in Acapulco, Mexico for several periods in the past totaling about five years and speaks fluent Spanish. Discovering his native heritage four years ago, Charles has embraced a new lifestyle, combining Cherokee tradition and pride with high school life.

His interests are Cherokee storytelling (which he performs at schools and native gatherings), the Cherokee language and syllabary, film making, community theater, creative writing and student government.

Cherokee storytelling has been Charles’s favorite aspect of the culture . He has recorded several stories, such as Rabbit and Possum Seek Wives and Why the Bat Flies at Night (in Spanish and English). He has produced three films for the Cherokee Nation of Mexico, including The History of the Cherokee People and a video on Why the Bat Flies at Night. He is working on even more.

Charles enjoys participating in Cherokee Nation of Mexico functions, events, and ceremonies and is looking forward to someday leading the tribe into an exciting future. He is especially engrossed in the philosophy of the Cherokee which embraces a religion of peace, of harmony, and of a balance with nature; he hopes to be able to spread this message which is sorely needed in these times of strife.

He is always eager to help his tribe, instructing the younger members, speaking to the press, and assisting his father, Chief Rogers, whenever he can. He is a fine example of the young Cherokees.
